Can a hug a day keep the doctor away?

Can a hug a day keep the doctor away ?

Apparently studies have shown that human contact ie (hugging) has many health benefits. It has been found that human contact can improve both psychological and physical development. Hugging can also help build a good immune system, decrease the risk of heart disease, and decrease levels of the stress hormone cortisol in women. It has been shown that a couple who hugs for 20 seconds have higher levels of oxytocin, and that those who were in a loving relationship exhibited a highest increase. According to the American Psychosomatic Society, a hug or 10 minutes of holding hands with a romantic partner can help reduce stress. In a study, adults who had no contact with people had higher blood pressure and heart rate. Other studies have indicated that the touch of a friend might not be as helpful as the touch of a partner but should not be avoided.
Hugging someone you care about can ease stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure and even boost memory — but hugging a stranger can have the opposite effect.
Experts believe it all comes back to the hormone oxytocin. A simple embrace seems to increase levels of the “love hormone,” which has been linked to social bonding. That oxytocin boost seems to have a greater calming effect on women than men.
Cuddling
Call it an extended hug — cuddling also releases stress-easing oxytocin, which can reduce blood pressure and bond you with your mate. But you may not have guessed that a little cuddle time can help you and your partner communicate better. “Non-verbal communication can be a very powerful way to say to your partner, ‘I get you,'”or ‘I know how you feel.’
So grab your lover, partner or spouse and have a great big hug or cuddle today, and not only will it feel nice but you will be easing your stress and anxieties away.
